Lord’s Day 11
Q29. Why is the Son of God called Jesus, which means Savior?
Because he saves us from our sins. Salvation cannot be found in anyone else. It is pointless to look for salvation anywhere else.
Scripture Proofs — King James Version
Matthew 1:21
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
Hebrews 7:25
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
Isaiah 43:11
“I, I, the LORD; and beside me no saviour.”
John 15:5
“I am the vine, ye the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
Acts 4:11–12
“This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
1 Timothy 2:5
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

Illustration
When a new baby is born, the parents pick a name carefully. Sometimes the name means something special. God chose the name "Jesus" for his Son because it means "he saves." His name is his job description. Every time you say his name, you are saying what he came to do.
Application
The next time you say or hear the name of Jesus, pause and remember what that name means. Because he saves you from your sins, his name is the most comforting word you will ever hear. Thank him for being your Savior.
