Lord’s Day 22
Q57. How does "the resurrection of the body" comfort you?
Not only will my soul go to be with Christ right after I die, but even my body, raised by the power of Christ, will be joined with my soul again and made like Christ's glorious body.
Scripture Proofs — King James Version
Luke 23:43
“And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”
Philippians 1:21–23
“For to me to live Christ, and to die gain. But if I live in the flesh, this the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:”
1 Corinthians 15:20, 42–46, 54
“But now is Christ risen from the dead, become the firstfruits of them that slept. So also the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam a quickening spirit. Howbeit that not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Philippians 3:21
“Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”
1 John 3:2
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

Illustration
When you plant a bulb in winter, it looks dead and brown. But in spring it comes up as a living flower, far more glorious than the bulb you buried. Your body will be raised and made glorious, joined back with your soul, and made like Christ's own risen body.
Application
The next time you visit a cemetery or hear about someone who has died, remember the promise of resurrection. Thank God that death does not get the last word over the bodies of those who belong to Christ.
